Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. A group of 110 people displaced by violence in the states of Guerrero and Michoacán are sheltered at the Nazareth Migrant House, awaiting political asylum in the United States. The majority are women with their children.
In this regard, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nuevo Laredo, Enrique Sánchez Martínez, announced that, to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Casa del Migrante, a new dormitory area had been opened and other expansion projects had been announced.
He explained that there are currently 130 people at the Casa del Migrante, 110 of whom are Mexican, including children, women, and men. They are all fleeing various states in the country, immersed in violence.
The shelter's director, Father Marvic Ajic, said the shelter has a capacity for 150 people and offers food, clothing, legal advice, psychological counseling, medical care, and spiritual counseling.
" You have seen the birth of this Nazareth House as a fruit of solidarity and concern among all of us who live on this border, coordinated by the Church at the time. Thus, we have reached 18 years of this institution, which has experienced difficult times and days of joy and happiness," the Catholic bishop expressed.
And he thanked the community and Scalabrinian fathers for the support they have given to the migrants .
The new dormitory area is located on the second floor and consists of 40 beds that will be used by children and women.
