Sheinbaum wants to sue Google for changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Mexican government is considering filing a civil complaint against Google over its reluctance to change the name of the Gulf of America to Gulf of Mexico, in accordance with a decree issued by White House President Donald Trump, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced. She considered that the internationally recognized name, Gulf of Mexico, should be preserved.

In a press conference, he said that Google had already responded to the letter sent by Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Funte, reaffirming its position on naming it the Gulf of America for users in the United States. The Foreign Ministry responded that this determination is incorrect and does not correspond to the scope of Trump's executive order, which expressly states that this designation is limited to the continental shelf of the United States.

Sheinbaum insisted that Trump's decree refers to renaming the Gulf of Mexico's continental shelf, which spans 22 nautical miles, but Mexico and Cuba also have their own continental shelves in the Gulf of Mexico. She said the foreign minister confirmed Mexico's position to Google, and that this lawsuit would be pursued based on the response.
