Snapchat's new lenses allow AI to create images using text commands

Snapchat is launching a new lens that allows users to create and edit images using a text-to-image artificial intelligence (AI) generator, according to a company statement to TechCrunch .

A new lens called Imagine Lens, available to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ subscribers, allows users to create, edit, and re-modify Snaps by entering their own commands or prompts .

According to a TechCrunch release on Friday, the resulting image can be shared with friends, uploaded to Stories, or shared outside of Snapchat.

While Snapchat already has a number of generative AI-based lenses, the company emphasizes that Imagine Lens is the first Lens that allows for open-ended image creation.

With Imagine Lens, users can generate images with specific commands such as "create a picture of a grumpy cat" or "turn me into an alien."

The lens also provides built-in commands you can use such as "turn me into a four- or five-panel comic with an unexpected but heroic incident," "make me a funny caricature," or "make this person skydiving."

Snapchat added that users can tap the caption text bar to edit the command to their liking.
