The Nepalese government said it would block most social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and YouTube, because the companies providing these platforms failed to comply with regulations requiring them to register with the government.
Nepal's Minister of Communications and Information Prithvi Subba Gurung said that about two dozen widely used social media platforms in Nepal have been repeatedly told to immediately register their companies with the government, according to an AP News report cited by Kyodo News on Friday.
"Those platforms will be blocked soon," he said.
TikTok, Viber, and three other social media platforms are allowed to continue operating in Nepal because they have registered with the government.
