Several major social media platforms in China have begun implementing special labels for content created with artificial intelligence (AI) as new government regulations come into effect.
As reported by Engadget on Wednesday, users of WeChat, Douyin Weibo, and Xiaohongshu (RedNote) are now seeing AI-generated tags on text, images, audio, video, and other forms of content. Identification marks, such as watermarks , are also embedded in the metadata accompanying the content.
WeChat instructs its users to proactively label AI-generated content. The platform also prohibits users from removing, changing, or hiding labels already applied by the system.
