South Korea pledges full support for local AI and robotics companies

The South Korean government has pledged to provide all available policy support to assist domestic artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics companies.

This is in line with the goal of making South Korea a global AI powerhouse, South Korean Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol said Friday.

Yonhap reported on Friday that the minister made the promise during a meeting with leaders of AI, robotics and automotive companies, as well as officials from related ministries and agencies, held at the headquarters of Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics Laboratory in Uiwang, south of Seoul.

The meeting is part of the South Korean government's efforts to actively engage in the field, following the announcement of the Lee Jae Myung administration's five-year economic development blueprint, which emphasizes AI as a new growth engine and aims to build a so-called "super-innovation economy," according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
