BC mayors sign plans to ensure access to water

Mexicali, April 24. The local governments of Baja California's seven municipalities signed comprehensive municipal drinking water and sanitation plans, documents they assure will guarantee equitable access to water , promote sustainability, and encourage responsible use of this liquid.

This agreement is promoted by the Secretariat for the Management, Sanitation and Protection of Water (Seproa) and the National Water Commission (Conagua), and emanates from the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability, as part of the National Water Plan , presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

“A few months ago, the president of Mexico convened a meeting with mayors across the country through the Ministry of the Interior. There, she spoke to us about this national agreement and made it clear that the only way to create the conditions for access to this right is through teamwork and the signing of agreements to promote joint actions and generate balance in society ,” emphasized Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, mayor of Tijuana.

He added that his administration will support efforts aimed at strengthening water policy and community development.

In addition to Burgueño Ruiz, the mayors who signed the comprehensive plans were Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez of Mexicali; Miriam Elizabeth Cano Núñez of San Quintín; Román Cota Muñoz of Tecate; and José Luis Dagnino López of San Felipe. Representatives of the mayors of Ensenada and Playas de Rosarito attended on behalf of the city councils.
