Spotify announces new policies regarding AI-generated music

Spotify has announced a series of policy updates related to artificial intelligence (AI) to clarify the use of AI in music production, curb spam practices, and emphasize the prohibition on the use of unauthorized voice imitations on its platform.

The company said it will adopt a new industry standard called DDEX to identify and label AI-powered music in song credits.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Thursday, this system allows record labels, distributors, and music partners to submit information regarding the use of AI, both in vocals, instruments, and post-production stages.

"We know AI usage will be broad, with artists and producers integrating AI at various stages of their creative workflows. This industry standard allows for more accurate and nuanced disclosure, not forcing a song into a binary category: fully AI or not AI at all," said Sam Duboff, Spotify's Global Head of Marketing and Policy.
