Mexicali, July 26.- Sara Ahumada , wife of Sunshine Antonio Rodríguez Peña , accused federal authorities of keeping the fishing leader imprisoned for his activism in favor of legal fishing in the port of San Felipe .
She stated that nine months after her husband was arrested, he is still in pretrial detention and has not received an interim hearing.
"My husband is going to serve nine months in prison; we haven't even had a first hearing, and we know the law dictates two to six months," the fisherman's wife reported.
Ahumada called a press conference to denounce the irregularities in the criminal proceedings and stated that they are not afraid of Rodríguez Peña being investigated. However, as time passes, the fisherman's health has deteriorated, he called for respect for due process.
