Tencent says Indonesia's cloud and AI market has wide potential

Chinese technology company Tencent said the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) market potential in Indonesia remains wide open, especially for private companies.

"In the Indonesian market in particular, I think both our cloud and software businesses are more driven by the private sector. For example, one of the largest technology companies in Indonesia, GoTo Group, has completed the migration of its GoJek services to Tencent Cloud and since then, users have enjoyed better services," said Tencent Senior Executive Vice President and CEO of Cloud and Smart Industries Group Dowson Tong in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, China on Tuesday.

Dowson made the remarks in a special session with reporters before the Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit 2025, which was attended by various technology business players including GoTo Group, CP Group, e& UAE, Orange, Com2uS, AstraZeneca, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, BMW, Walmart China, and others.

The IDC Indonesia report (2024) shows that the public cloud market in Indonesia is estimated to have the potential to reach a value of 1.38 billion US dollars or Rp 22.48 trillion in 2025. This number is driven by the increasing demand for digital transformation in the public and private sectors.

This growth could reach US$933 million or Rp14.6 trillion by 2025, given that Southeast Asia's digital economy alone is expected to reach US$200 billion by 2024.

"So I think there are also many other internet players in the video and gaming sectors who are using our technology in the public cloud to bring new innovations to their users in the Indonesian market. On the other hand, customers in financial institutions, such as banks, are also interested in our technology," Dowson added.
