The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) has announced that the new National Beach Sports Week (PON) will be held for the first time in Jakarta in 2026.
The event was confirmed to be held in Jakarta after DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung expressed his willingness to host it in a meeting with the General Chairperson of the Central KONI Marciano Norman in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Central KONI has conducted research on activity locations and determined Ancol as the best location for the Beach PON, which will feature 12 sports.
Marciano Norman explained that the Beach PON event will be a competition space for sports branches that will not be contested at the 2028 PON.
The upcoming PON event, he said, will focus only on sports branches competed in the Olympics as well as selected branches from the two host provinces, namely East Nusa Tenggara Province and West Nusa Tenggara Province.
The Beach PON will be held every two years, just like several other innovative events, namely the Self-Defense PON, Indoor PON, and Youth PON.
Marciano said the first-ever Beach PON, which will be held in Jakarta, also aims to support the growth of the sports-based tourism sector.
"We want to be part of DKI Jakarta's success in organizing sports tourism ," he said.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said his administration is ready to host the Beach Games for the first time.
"I'm personally willing, but if I'm involved, I have to go all out . If Jakarta can do it, don't do it half-heartedly," he said.
