The North Sumatra Provincial Government stated that 24 countries are participating in the world cross-country running event in the Lake Toba area.
North Sumatra Provincial Secretary Togap Simangunsong said preparations for the 2025 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) World Series Trail of the Kings - Lake Toba cross-country race have reached 99 percent completion.
"Preparations are 99 percent complete, and according to reports we've received, 24 countries have registered," said Togap Simangunsong in Medan on Thursday.
These countries include the United States, Spain, France, Ireland, Czech Republic, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, with each country having more than one runner.
This international event was held on Samosir Island in the Lake Toba area with six race categories, namely children, 5K, 10K, 28K, 60K, and 100K in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra on October 17-19, 2025.
"We estimate that this international event will be attended by more than 100 world runners and 500 local runners," said Togap.
He also asked all relevant parties involved in the international cross-country race to work together to ensure the success of the international event.
The Trail of The Kings - Lake Toba by UTMB World Series 2025 will have a direct economic impact on the community, and promote Lake Toba internationally.
"The direct economic impact extends to hotels, food, beverages, and tourist attractions, and we receive positive publicity from the runners. Therefore, this event must be a success," Togap said.
Head of the North Sumatra Province Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Yuda Pratiwi Setiawan, said that to date, around 650 runners have registered as participants.
The approximately 650 participants in the 2025 UTMB Trail of the Kings - Lake Toba World Cross-Country Run consist of 106 foreign runners, and the rest come from 20 provinces in Indonesia.
"Registration is open until September 29, 2025. There's a strong possibility that more will be added, both domestically and internationally. So let's make this global event even more exciting," said Yuda.
Samosir Regent Vandiko T Gultom said his party is ready to support the success of the Trail of the Kings - Lake Toba event by UTMB World Series 2025.
The Samosir Regency Government, North Sumatra, has also prepared various supporting events to make the Trail of The Kings - Lake Toba by UTMB even more attractive.
"We're preparing side events, such as a solu bolon competition, an ulos exhibition, and more to make it more interesting. Overall, we're ready to fully support this event," said Vandiko.
