The importance of children getting the measles vaccine to prevent complications





The Ministry of Health has emphasized the importance of every child receiving the measles vaccine to prevent serious health complications and even death.

"To provide optimal protection against measles, the measles immunization is given three times," said Head of the Public Information and Communication Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Aji Muhawarman, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Saturday.

Aji said that the measles vaccine is given three times, namely when the child is 9 months old, 18 months old, and when the child is in grade 1 of elementary school/Islamic elementary school/equivalent, including children who are not attending school.

The vaccine is very useful because it can provide protection for children to prevent measles which can cause high fever, skin rashes, coughs, runny noses, and red eyes.

Meanwhile, serious complications of measles can include pneumonia, brain inflammation , and even death.
