The West Manggarai Regency Government is encouraging the development of new tourist attractions in the super priority tourism destination of Labuan Bajo to become an alternative choice for international and domestic tourists in the region.
"This new tourist spot is also expected to become an alternative tourist destination besides Komodo National Park," said West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi in Labuan Bajo, Friday.
He added that the new tourist attraction being developed by the West Manggarai Regency Government is Kukusan Island, which is part of a group of islands around Labuan Bajo and is inhabited by local residents, as well as the Mberenang Beach tourist attraction in South Lembor District.
He explained that Kukusan Island has interesting natural attractions that are considered to be on par with the beauty of the natural landscape on Padar Island, in the Komodo National Park area.
"We are developing, one of the things we want to promote is Kukusan Island, which is currently in the final stages of development, so that Kukusan can become a new spot where visiting this area will not be much different from visiting Padar Island. We are also developing Mberenang Beach in South Lombok," he said.
The Mabar Regency Government has discussed the construction of a number of infrastructure projects on Kukusan Island, such as a jetty, a crossing route, and bathing, washing, and toilet (MCK) facilities for the safety and comfort of tourists.
