Theft and vandalism in La Sierra subdivision one year after collapse

Tijuana, March 12. Residents of Tarahumara Street in the La Sierra neighborhood demanded a meeting with authorities to discuss repairs to the road where two residential buildings collapsed a year ago. The collapse has led to an increase in theft and vandalism.

On March 27, 2023, a series of landslides began in the district, a fact that became known because two buildings at risk of collapse were on the edge of a slope overlooking Cuauhtémoc Sur Boulevard.

Finally, one of the buildings collapsed on April 1, and although authorities considered intervening to demolish the second, it collapsed on its own on April 9.

A year after this collapse, residents reported that people from outside the neighborhood have entered to loot the ruins and burn vehicles they couldn't remove from the damaged street. They have even broken into the homes and cars of people who still live there.
