Tijuana, January 2. Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz delivered to municipal police officers the first batch of 140 patrol cars, each equipped with five cameras to monitor officers' actions. He also provided 129 handguns and 86 handguns.
During his morning press conference this Thursday, the Tijuana mayor specified that the units are Explorer models, which will be used in specific areas to "guarantee security and crime prevention in the city."
He described the cameras as having "certain specifications that had not been previously integrated" and detailed that four of the cameras are exterior and one interior.
He said that "transparency in the good performance of our officers is very important, and having cameras in the units provides legal certainty, not only for citizens but also for the officers." For his part, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales, explained that the cameras begin to operate when the patrol car is started.
Among the units delivered this Thursday are 19 Ford F150 pickups, 29 Explorer Police Interceptor SUVs, and 10 Suzuki V-Strom 250 motorcycle patrol vehicles, the mayor explained, explaining that the objective of this delivery is to "strengthen the operational tools for the Municipal Police and the intelligence area."
The Secretary of Security announced that in the next quarter, the Municipal Police will have 600 patrol vehicles, "which will put Tijuana at the forefront of meeting its operational needs."
