UABC, the first state university to adopt digital certifications

Mexicali, April 9. The Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2024 with the technology company POK ( Proof of Knowledge ), which specializes in digital certification solutions using blockchain technology.

UABC is the first public university in Mexico to implement this technology in continuing education, joining institutions such as the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) and TecMilenio University.

This initiative begins with the issuance of five thousand digital badges during the 2025-2021 period.

The agreement enabled the adoption of a platform for issuing digital badges, microcredentials, diplomas, and academic certificates with high standards of security, inviolability, and international recognition.

“Blockchain technology has the potential to globally recognize all the achievements people make in their academic, professional, and work settings,” said CEC coordinator David Guadalupe Toledo Sarracino.

Blockchain technology ensures that these documents cannot be falsified or duplicated , as they are securely recorded on the platform, allowing employers, institutions, and professional platforms to immediately verify the authenticity of achievements using a QR code.

Toledo Sarracino emphasized that digital certifications and badges are already being awarded for various courses, workshops, diplomas, and modular postgraduate programs (PPM).
