Top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova halted Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez's progress in the quarterfinals winning 6-1, 6-2.
Venus/Leylah, who had not dropped a set in their first three rounds, faced an uphill battle against the two-time Grand Slam champions at Louis Armstrong Stadium, despite the full support of the packed crowd.
"I'm really happy with the way we played today," Townsend said after the match, as broadcast by the WTA.
"I felt like we really executed our game plan perfectly, and that's what we hope for as players. Our coach was also very happy with the way we played."
From the opening points of the match, Siniakova and Townsend showed why they are one of the best women's doubles duos in the world throughout the 56-minute match.
"There are times, especially when you're facing a tough opponent who can adjust quickly, and Venus is a legend who understands that and knows how to win and find solutions when things don't go her way. And Leylah is the same way. She's always been a fighter," Townsend said.
