Tijuana, March 4. The state leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Mario Osuna, was questioned about how they will seek to combat the apathy that exists in Baja California in relation to electoral processes, given that more than 50 percent of the population does not go to the polls , in addition to the fact that young people (just over 50 percent of the electoral roll) historically do not vote for the PAN.
“Unfortunately, Baja California has been known for its abstention rate. Our alliance's goal is to convince young people to go out and vote (…) that's why we're revamping our process, inviting the general public and non-partisans to participate, and thereby achieving that historic vote that doesn't turn out to vote, and that, if it does, won't vote for the PAN,” said Mario Osuna.
He considered that the proposals of the presidential candidate for the coalition, Fuerza y Corazón por México, Xóchitl Gálvez , attract the young population because she speaks directly to their interests, such as security, the environment, and technology.
When asked whether political party candidates and legislative hopefuls would support Gálvez's proposals, the PAN leader asserted: "The legislators of the next legislative session have the option of reaching an agreement with Xóchitl Gálvez on what she has proposed and on the bill. We definitely have an ideology, which ultimately doesn't conflict with many things."
She also mentioned that the PAN's ideology can be "matched with the proposals Xóchitl brings, which she will by no means stop supporting. She knows that we don't want deputies or senators who raise their fingers like we have right now; we want capable people who will go to Congress and support her."
"Yes, we believe in checks and balances, but that doesn't mean we're going to be against it. On the contrary, we're going to try to advance Xóchitl's agenda as President because that's what will lead her to the Presidency of the Republic," he said.
