YouTube has reportedly begun limiting the use of premium service packages for families whose members are in different locations, following in the footsteps of Netflix and Disney+.
YouTube began sending notifications to people who use accounts in the Premium Family subscription service but are in a different location from the family organizer that their membership will be suspended in 14 days.
This step was taken because according to the terms of service of YouTube's Premium Family membership plan, all members of the family plan must live in the same household as the family manager.
Implementing this measure allows YouTube to generate more revenue, as people who don't live in the same household will have to subscribe themselves if they want to continue enjoying premium services.
YouTube doesn't yet have a system like Netflix, which allows family plan users who don't live in the same household to pay a lower subscription fee than the full subscription fee to continue their subscription.
It's also unclear whether YouTube will offer such a service. So, all users can do is pay the full price for a YouTube Premium subscription or cancel it altogether.
