Indonesian men's singles player Alwi Farhan is growing in confidence after securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 BWF World Tour Super 750 French Open.
Alwi advanced after eliminating Irish representative Nhat Nguyen in a three-game battle 16-21, 21-12, 21-17 at the Glaz Arena, Cesson-Sevigné, France, Thursday.
"Thank God, I'm grateful to have won today's match. As before, I was able to control my thinking on the court. I overcame the difficulties, and at the end of the match, when my opponent started to catch up, I quickly changed my game and regained control," said Alwi in an official PBSI statement.
Alwi added that his 21-15, 21-16 victory over seventh-seeded Frenchman Alex Lanier in the first round boosted his confidence. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining balance to avoid losing focus.
"Beating Alex Lanier yesterday definitely boosted my confidence, but I still have to maintain control. I can't get too excited, which can be detrimental and lead to a loss of focus," he added.
In the quarter-finals, Alwi will face the third seed from Thailand, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who previously eliminated Kodai Naraoka (Japan) with a score of 21-7, 21-6.
Unfortunately, another Indonesian men's singles player, Jonatan Christie, had to end his journey in France after losing to Japanese representative Koki Watanabe with a score of 21-11, 19-21, 23-25.
