The Yamaha team confirmed that racer Augusto Fernandez will be a wildcard rider at the Malaysian MotoGP which will take place at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, on Sunday.
Augusto is projected to be a test rider for the Yamaha V4-powered prototype being developed by the tuning fork manufacturer for the 2026 MotoGP season.
Previously, the Yamaha V4 was also tested by Yamaha at the San Marino MotoGP which took place at the Misano Circuit, Italy.
"I'm happy to be back racing. After the Misano GP, it feels like a long time ago, but I'm really excited about this weekend. We'll continue to improve our V4-powered prototype package. We're back on track and racing again," said Augusto Fernandez, as quoted from the official MotoGP website on Thursday.
Augusto can't wait to get back on the V4-powered prototype currently being developed by Yamaha.
"But, of course, this will be another weekend to develop the prototype bike. So the main goal is to be ready for next season," said Augusto.
Augusto previously also served as a test rider and was registered by Yamaha as a wildcard rider in races held at the Aragon Circuit, Brno Circuit, and Misano Circuit.
Yamaha is currently working hard to develop the YZR-M1, which is equipped with a V4 engine specification after being presented to the public at the San Marino GP which took place in September.
