Cairo News Channel reported that a Hamas delegation headed by Khalil al-Hayya is currently meeting with a Fatah delegation headed by Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in the presence of Palestinian Intelligence Chief Majed Faraj. The meeting is part of Egypt's efforts to consolidate the truce and discuss post-war arrangements.
The channel continued that Cairo is hosting expanded talks between Palestinian factions as part of efforts to implement the second phase of Trump's plan, which includes the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of an interim governing council for the Strip under the supervision of a new international transitional body called the "Peace Council," headed by Trump.
The first phase of the agreement included the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from areas in Gaza, with the exception of some neighborhoods east of the city and north of the Strip, in addition to the city of Rafah (south) and the coast of the Strip.
The agreement ended Israel's two-year war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 8, 2023, and resulted in the deaths of more than 68,000 Palestinians, the injury of approximately 170,000 others, the majority of whom were women and children, and the destruction of more than 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
Egypt, in coordination with the United States, Turkey, and Qatar, is seeking to implement the Gaza reconstruction plan approved by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation last March. The plan, which will take five years and cost an estimated $53 billion, will be implemented. Cairo is scheduled to host an international reconstruction conference in November.
