The East Belitung Regency Government, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is strengthening the development of young athletes to produce professional athletes who excel at the national and international levels.
"If coaching is carried out early, we will see the future athletes of East Belitung," said East Belitung Deputy Regent Khairil Anwar at the closing of the KKG POJK Cup IV in Manggar, Tuesday.
He said that coaching needs to be expanded to all sub-districts so that talent searches can reach remote areas.
"We have many talented aspiring athletes spread across various sub-districts. They must be nurtured as potential talents in various sports," he said.
The local government is targeting the development of young athletes to become a sustainable program involving schools, sports clubs, and the community.
With this synergy, it is hoped that athletes will emerge who are able to bring the name of East Belitung to the national and international stage.
In addition, the government is also encouraging the improvement of sports facilities and infrastructure at the village and sub-district levels so that children have adequate training space.
"This step is expected to strengthen the foundation of development and encourage the younger generation to excel through sports," said Khairil.
The Chairman of KONI East Belitung, Hendro, added that many potential athletes are born in villages but are often overlooked due to minimal opportunities to participate in sub-district and district level championships.
"Many young children from remote areas have talents, but they are rarely monitored," he said.
Hendro emphasized that KONI Belitung Timur fully supports the role of sports teachers in recruiting and developing young athletes.
"They are early talent scouts who have been providing coaching from an early age. We are very grateful for the contribution of these sports teachers," said Hendro.
