Ja Morant injured his ankle during Grizzlies practice

Memphis Grizzlies basketball player Ja Morant suffered a sprained left ankle injury during a team training session in preparation for the 2025-2026 NBA season.

According to the NBA website, as quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday, the injury will keep the guard out of action until at least next week, and his status will be further evaluated by the team's medical team.

The injury will also keep him out of Wednesday's preseason game against the Detroit Pistons.

Meanwhile, the 2025-2026 NBA regular season begins at home for the Memphis Grizzlies, when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on October 22.

Meanwhile, Morant is the latest addition to the Grizzlies' roster of core players struggling with injuries, following Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey.

In the last two seasons, Ja Morant has only appeared in 59 games in total due to various injuries and league suspensions.

Since the start of the 2021-2022 season, he has played in only about 56 percent of Memphis' 328 regular-season games. He has also missed five of the team's last three postseason appearances.
