Meta announced that it will discontinue the desktop version of its Messenger app for Windows and Mac starting December 15, 2025.
After that date, users will no longer be able to log into the app and will be automatically redirected to the Facebook website to access Messenger.
“If you’re using the Messenger desktop app, you’ll receive an in-app notification when the termination process begins,” the Messenger help page reads, as quoted on Friday.
"You have 60 days to use the Messenger Mac app before it is completely discontinued. After 60 days, you will be blocked from the app, and we encourage you to delete it, as it will no longer be usable," he continued.
According to a Tech Crunch report, the plan to close the app was first detected by Appleinsider.
