Geopolitical tensions between the United States and China are pushing technology giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google to accelerate the relocation of their product production and data centers out of China.
According to a Nikkei report citing industry sources, as reported by Tech Crunch on Friday, the three companies are looking to move their hardware and data center production out of China.
Microsoft is targeting up to 80 percent of components for its Surface devices and data centers to be manufactured outside of China by 2026.
This move includes shifting assembly and production processes for notebook devices, next-generation servers, and even parts of the Xbox console production line to other Asian regions. Microsoft has also reportedly asked its manufacturing partners to begin preparing production capacity outside of China starting next year.
