Chairman of the Indonesian Handball Association (PB ABTI) Zulfydar Zaidar Mochtar hopes that the national training camp (pelatnas) for Indonesian handball in preparation for the 2025 SEA Games and the 2025 National Handball Championship (Kejurnas) which will take place in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, from October 23-31 will be opened by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir.
"In addition to being opened directly by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, PB ABTI hopes that the Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari, and the General Chairman of the Central KONI, Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, will also attend. Likewise, the Governor of West Kalimantan, H. Ria Norsan," said Zulfydar Zaidar in an official statement, Sunday.
According to Zulfydar, the presence of national sports figures and the West Kalimantan government is expected to provide a spark of enthusiasm for handball athletes to perform optimally both in the 2025 National Championship and the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
"The four major events are the Indonesian indoor handball national training camp, which is being held in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, and will be held at the Pontianak Hajj Dormitory from October 7 to December 7, 2025," he said.
The opening ceremony of the 2025 National Championship has been planned, with an exhibition match between the Indonesian All-Stars and the Thai Handball National Team, which is preparing to compete at the 2025 SEA Games. This will be followed by a match between the women's youth national training team and the women's junior team, which is preparing to compete at the IHF Trophy. Both matches will be held at the Ahmad Yani Integrated Sports Hall in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
Zulfydar said that PB ABTI will also hold a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) at the Ibis Hotel Pontianak on October 25 to prepare for the long-term plan for Indonesian handball going forward.
"The various handball events, including the PB ABTI National Working Meeting held in Pontianak, are aimed at improving athletes' achievements on the international stage," explained Zulfydar Zaidar.
Zulfydar Zaidar said that PB ABTI hopes that the results achieved by the National Handball Team at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand 2025 will exceed those achieved previously.
According to him, every time he appears at an international event, the men's and women's national teams always fly the Red and White flag. Since his leadership, the Indonesian national handball team has consistently won medals at various international events.
