Russell Westbrook joins Sacramento Kings for NBA 2025-2026

Former NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Russell Westbrook has agreed to join the Sacramento Kings for the 2025-2026 season.

According to the NBA website, as quoted in Jakarta on Thursday, the agreement will be Westbrook's 18th year in the United States professional basketball league.

The point guard signed a one-year contract with the Kings. Last season with the Denver Nuggets, the 36-year-old averaged 13.3 points per game (ppg), 6.1 assists per game (apg), 4.9 rebounds per game (rpg), and 1.4 steals per game (spg) in 75 games.

Westbrook began his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and partnered with Kevin Durant to help the team become a force in the Western Conference.

After Durant moved to the Golden State Warriors, Westbrook performed exceptionally and won the most valuable player award the following season.

He also became the first player in history to average a triple-double in three consecutive seasons.

Throughout his career, he won two league scoring titles and was twice named All-Star Game MVP. After leaving the Thunder, he played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and most recently the Denver Nuggets.

Despite having played for various teams, the 6-foot-1 player retains a special place in the hearts of Oklahoma City fans. He even received a standing ovation when he appeared in the city in last season's Western Conference semifinals with the Nuggets.

Westbrook currently holds the record for most triple-doubles in NBA history with 203 and has amassed 26,205 career points.

Through the presence of this basketball player, the Kings hope to gain additional experience and energy to compete at the top of the Western Conference next season.
