The government will require games to include age classifications starting January 2026.

The Director General of Digital Ecosystems at the Ministry of Communication and Digital , Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, said that starting in January 2026, the government will require games published in Indonesia to include age-classification labels to protect children from age-inappropriate content.

"So, we will announce later that starting in January next year, all games must be rated (classified) based on their respective age groups. Every game in Indonesia will be required to include its classification, indicating which age group it is intended for," Edwin said when met in Badung, Bali, Friday.

He added that the classification based on content and age group in games is regulated in the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) which will be announced tomorrow, Saturday (11/10), at the Indonesia Game Developer Exchange (IGDX) event.

Edwin explained that every game developer is required to conduct an assessment to determine the age category of their game. Afterward, the government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, will conduct regular checks to ensure the age classification aligns with the content displayed.
