The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) and the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Kemendes PDT) have agreed to collaborate to provide internet access in villages that do not yet have internet access.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid and Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two ministries at the Kemkomdigi Office, Jakarta, Tuesday.
"Today's meeting resulted in the signing of an MoU between the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration. This MoU will accelerate steps to connect villages across Indonesia," said Meutya after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two ministries.
He said that the two ministries are currently matching data on the number of villages that are not yet connected to the internet network.
According to data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital, around 2,300 villages in Indonesia do not have internet access, while according to data from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, there are still around 3,000 villages that are not connected to the internet network.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital and the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendes PDT) are synchronizing data on villages that do not yet have internet access to determine priorities for developing infrastructure to support internet access services in villages, which is planned to be implemented starting in 2026.
"So, we can start with data that isn't too different, and then we'll compare it to determine which villages we'll prioritize for connectivity in 2026," Meutya said.
