The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has received additional funding to support Indonesia's participation in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, totaling Rp60 billion.
"With the existing funds, we can send 700 to 800 athletes to the 2025 SEA Games, depending on the results of the joint evaluation," said Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir at a press conference.
He explained that his ministry's previous budget allocation for the 2025 SEA Games was only Rp10 billion. With that funding, Indonesia would likely only be able to send around 120 athletes.
The Minister of Youth and Sports reported the situation to President Prabowo Subianto and received instructions to convey the existing budget conditions to the Minister of Finance, which ultimately resulted in a six-fold increase in the budget.
He said that the additional budget reflected the President's commitment to positioning sports as an ambassador for the nation and a reflection of the nation's greatness.
"I have also reported (regarding budget support) to the President, expressing my gratitude for the government's commitment," he said.
