This came in a phone interview with CNN on Wednesday, in which he discussed the current situation regarding the agreement to end the war in Gaza, which entered into force on October 10.
Trump indicated that "the situation with Hamas will be resolved quickly...and if Hamas refuses to disarm, Israel will be back in the streets as soon as I say the word."
On Tuesday, the US president said during a press conference that Hamas had informed him that it would "disarm," adding, "If they don't, we'll take care of it. I don't have to tell you how we're going to do it, but we will."
Trump stated at the time that Washington was in contact with Hamas, through officials such as his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff.
On Monday, Hamas released the 20 remaining living Israeli prisoners it held. In return, Israel released 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, 1,718 detainees from Gaza since October 8, 2023, and the bodies of 90 Palestinians.
By Wednesday evening, Hamas had handed over the bodies of 10 prisoners, and said it "needed time and heavy equipment" to retrieve the bodies of 18 others. Israel claimed that one of the bodies received did not match any of the prisoners.
This comes as part of the first phase of a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip reached by Hamas and Israel, in accordance with the Trump plan, whose country has supported Israel's war of extermination on Gaza since October 8, 2023.
This genocide left 67,938 martyrs and 170,169 wounded, most of them children and women. A famine claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children. The UN estimates the cost of reconstruction at approximately $70 billion.
During the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt on Monday, Trump responded to a question about when the second phase would begin, saying that the phases are interconnected and that the second phase has already begun.
