The port is currently unloading approximately 900 tons of humanitarian aid from the ship, which departed from the port of Mersin in southern Turkey on October 14. This work is being coordinated with the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and supported by 17 civil society organizations.
More than half of the ship's cargo has been unloaded so far, including baby formula, ready-to-eat food, and canned goods. A portion of the aid has been loaded onto trucks that set off for Gaza, where AFAD officials saw it off at the port.
The truck journey from El Arish port to the Rafah crossing takes approximately 45 minutes, while the remaining relief supplies continue to be loaded and shipped to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
This comes as part of the ceasefire arrangements reached in Sharm el-Sheikh with the participation of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, under US supervision, following two years of Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Since October 8, 2023, Israel has been waging a two-year war of genocide, with American support, resulting in the deaths of 68,116 Palestinians, the injury of 170,200 others, and the destruction of 90% of the Gaza Strip's infrastructure.
