10 SEA Games sports moved to Bangkok due to Thailand floods

Ten sports at the 2025 SEA Games scheduled to take place in Songkhla next month will be moved to Bangkok due to flooding that hit Thailand on Wednesday (26/11), and concerns about the condition of the arena after the water recedes.

According to Deputy Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT) Chalitrat Chantarubeksa, the decision was taken in a meeting attended by Chairman of the 33rd SEA Games Committee Chaiyapak Siriwat, Tourism Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, and representatives from each participating country, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

The ten sports with a potential of 109 gold medals originally scheduled for the disaster-hit southern province were boxing, pencak silat, football, chess, judo, kabaddi, karate, wrestling, petanque and wushu.

Besides concerns about whether the floodwaters will recede in time, the condition of the previously determined venue is also a major concern.
