A Palestinian man died in Israeli prisons; the Palestinian Prisoners Club says the situation of detainees is catastrophic and unprecedented.

In a joint statement, the two institutions said that the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs, as the official point of contact with the Israeli side, informed them of the “martyrdom of prisoner Ghawadra from Jenin.”

According to the statement, Ghawadra was arrested on August 6, 2024, and has remained in detention ever since in Ganot prison (formerly Nafha and Ramon) in southern Israel.

In this context, the Director General of the Prisoners Club, Amjad al-Najjar, described on Sunday the situation of detainees in Israeli prisons as "catastrophic and unprecedented," while the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, is leading a "war of extermination against them."

This came in a speech delivered by Al-Najjar during the International Forum for the Support of Gaza and Palestinian Prisoners, which began its work on Sunday in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Al-Najjar said that the situation inside Israeli prisons is "catastrophic and unprecedented," and pointed to the continued crimes of the Israeli prison administration against Palestinian detainees.

He added that "the fascist minister Ben-Gvir is escalating his retaliatory policies and his open incitement to kill and execute Palestinian prisoners."

On Friday, Ben-Gvir, who leads the far-right "Jewish Power" party, appeared in a new video documenting his abuse of Palestinian prisoners inside an Israeli prison, vowing to execute them.

In the new clip, he appears walking among handcuffed Palestinian prisoners, telling them: "There is one thing left to do, and that is to execute them."

The Director General of the Palestinian Prisoners Club affirmed that what is happening to Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons is a "war crime and a crime against humanity that requires urgent action from the international community."

He called for "the activation of national courts in Europe to prosecute Israeli war criminals responsible for torture and murder inside prisons, in accordance with the principle of international jurisdiction."

Al-Najjar also called for the formation of neutral international committees under the supervision of the United Nations to visit Israeli prisons and investigate the ongoing violations against prisoners, especially after Ben-Gvir’s explicit threats to execute them.

On Wednesday, the Palestinian Prisoners Club condemned, in a statement, the decision by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz (issued on the same day) to prevent representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross from visiting hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and considered it a "cover for committing crimes."

More than 10,000 Palestinians, including children and women, are held in Israeli prisons, where they suffer torture, starvation, and medical neglect that has led to the deaths of many detainees, according to Israeli and Palestinian human rights organizations.

Attacks against Palestinian detainees increased, in parallel with the genocide in Gaza, which lasted for two years, before ending with a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10th.

This genocide left more than 68,000 martyrs and more than 170,000 wounded, while Israel violated the ceasefire agreement dozens of times, resulting in 211 Palestinian martyrs and the injury of 597 others.
