Argentine judge Julieta Makintach was removed from her post in connection with a scandal that led to the cancellation of the trial related to the death of football legend Diego Maradona.
The decision was unanimously issued by the Jury for the Impeachment of Judges and Officials of Buenos Aires Province.
The ruling also permanently bars the 48-year-old judge from holding judicial office in the future. The violations stemmed from Makintach allowing unauthorized filming for the documentary "Justicia Divina" inside the courtroom during the trial. Makintach is prominently featured in the documentary.
Prosecutor Ana Duarte accused Makintach of "lying, pressuring, manipulating," displaying bias, and abusing his power. Makintach argued that he only agreed to an interview with a friend and did not authorize the documentary to be filmed.
A retrial in Maradona's death is scheduled to begin on March 17, 2026. Eight medical professionals are charged with murder in connection with Maradona's death and face possible prison sentences of eight to 25 years.
