World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight (79.3 kg) world champion David Benavidez defeated Anthony Yarde by knockout ( KO) to retain his title at the ANB Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"Benavidez dominated Yarde, outboxing him from the first bell until the seventh round, when he knocked him to the canvas," the WBC reported on its official website, as monitored in Jakarta on Monday.
After falling to the canvas, Yarde showed great effort by getting up to continue the fight, but he received additional punishment which forced Panamanian referee Hector Afu to step in to save him.
Benavidez showed himself clearly superior to Yarde, who failed in his third attempt at a world title.
In August 2019, Yarde was defeated by Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev, just as in January 2023 when he was defeated by another Russian boxer, Artur Beterbiev.
With that victory, the boxer nicknamed "The Mexican Monster" strengthened his record to 31 wins with 25 of those wins achieved by knockout.
