Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria believes that technological independence is a new form of nationalism in the modern era, and the struggle to maintain national sovereignty is shifting to the digital space.
"The goal of technological sovereignty is an act of nationalism, and to achieve digital independence, developing a digital ecosystem is crucial," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, digital infrastructure is now almost evenly distributed throughout Indonesia, both those built by the government and the private sector.
However, the mere availability of infrastructure is considered insufficient. Digital infrastructure must provide benefits to society, whether in the social, economic, or cultural spheres.
"The infrastructure that has been built must be able to provide meaningful connectivity , impacting the social, economic, and cultural lives of the community," he said.
Therefore, the government is not only focusing on building digital infrastructure, but also providing various training to produce digital talent who are experts in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
