Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs asks television stations to become content technology companies

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said television stations can no longer be merely broadcasting institutions but must transform into content technology companies that combine innovation with journalism with integrity.

He emphasized that the future of television depends on the ability to adapt to artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, media outlets are being encouraged to transform into content technology companies to remain relevant amidst the dramatic changes in the global media ecosystem.

"Other television companies must see themselves not just as broadcasters, but as content technology companies. Technology, especially AI, must penetrate all aspects, from the newsroom to distribution," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Nezar explained that the world is now entering the era of media 3.0, driven by algorithms and AI. Viewers no longer manually browse broadcasts but instead receive personalized recommendations from AI assistants.

This shift, he said, poses a threat to traditional broadcast patterns that rely on fixed schedules.

"Content control is now in the hands of AI. It's no longer humans who make the decisions. This is changing the way people watch and disrupting conventional media distribution models," he stressed.
