A study conducted by researchers at Amazentis SA in collaboration with an international team of scientists revealed that an oral antioxidant based on a natural compound called Urolithin A may help regenerate immune system activity and combat immune aging.
Urolithin A is produced naturally in the body after eating foods such as pomegranate, berries, strawberries and some nuts, and trials have shown that the dietary supplement extracted from it is safe for daily use and well tolerated.
Preliminary results suggest that this compound may enhance mitochondrial autophagy, a cellular mechanism that removes damaged mitochondria and helps maintain cell health.
In a recent clinical trial involving 50 healthy, middle-aged adults, half took 1000 mg of the supplement Mytopior (a purified form of urolithin A) daily, while the other half took a placebo. After four weeks, blood tests showed that the supplement improved the activity of both CD8⁺ T cells and natural killer cells, indicating a more efficient immune response.
Although these results are encouraging, the researchers emphasize that the long-term effects are still unknown, and that further studies are needed to determine whether these changes translate into tangible health benefits or increased lifespan.
In the next phase, the company plans to test "Mytopure" as part of an immunotherapy for cancer patients, a step that could help to clinically prove its immunological effectiveness.
The study was published in the journal Nature Aging.
