Israeli shelling injures peace activist in the West Bank; occupation army arrests 5 Palestinians amid settler attacks

The Israeli army radio said on Tuesday: "An army reserve force clashed with left-wing activists near the Palestinian village of Deir Istiya (southwest of Nablus) after a drone operated by the force hit some of the activists, who then shot it down with stones."

She added: "The force arrived to try to retrieve the drone, then a confrontation broke out, during which one of the soldiers fired warning shots into the air." The radio station claimed that the Israeli occupation army is "currently conducting an investigation into the incident."

For its part, the Hebrew Channel 12 quoted Israeli and American volunteers who participated in the olive harvest near Deir Istiya and the settlements of Yekir and Revava, as saying that they were attacked this morning by a drone belonging to settlers, and that a bullet was fired at them.

The channel added, "One of the volunteers was injured by the drone and was taken to the hospital suffering from a deep wound," without revealing her nationality.

2350 attacks

A Palestinian government body said on Tuesday that “the Israeli army and settlers carried out about 2,350 attacks in the occupied West Bank during last October, including the demolition of 28 Palestinian facilities.”

This came in a monthly report by the Palestinian Authority’s Commission against the Wall and Settlements (governmental) on “violations of the occupation and colonial expansion measures.”

The commission considered the implementation of these violations during the past month as "a continuation of the ongoing series of terrorism by the occupying state against the Palestinian people, their lands and properties," and indicated that the Israeli occupation army committed 1,584 attacks out of the total violations, while settlers carried out 766 attacks in various parts of the West Bank.

The commission noted that these attacks ranged from "direct physical assault, uprooting trees, burning fields, preventing olive pickers from accessing their lands, seizing property, and demolishing homes and agricultural facilities."

The settlers’ violations resulted in “the martyrdom of a citizen at the hands of settlers and the uprooting of 1,200 trees,” in addition to their attempt to establish 7 new settlement outposts, according to the report.

Regarding demolitions, the Wall Authority report stated that the Israeli occupation army carried out 25 demolition operations affecting 28 facilities, including 15 inhabited homes, two uninhabited homes, and 11 agricultural facilities. It also mentioned that the occupation army distributed about 30 notices for the demolition of other facilities during the past month, without giving details.

He pointed out that Israel seized 245 dunams (a dunam equals 1,000 square meters) of Palestinian land through 13 military orders, with the aim of creating buffer zones around settlements.

The report added that Israeli planning authorities studied 19 structural plans during last October, including "12 plans for West Bank settlements, and 7 plans for the benefit of settlements within the boundaries of the occupation municipality in Jerusalem."

arrests

In this context, the Israeli occupation army arrested a Palestinian man on Tuesday evening after he was shot in the city of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, according to government media.

The Voice of Palestineradio station (government-run) said that “Israeli special forces stormed the center of Ramallah, and later the army sent reinforcements to the city,” and noted that “live ammunition was fired at a young man and he was arrested,” without disclosing his identity or the extent of his injury.

According to eyewitnesses, clashes broke out between Palestinian youths and the Israeli army, which fired tear gas canisters in the center of Ramallah.

Earlier today, the Israeli occupation army arrested four Palestinians after surrounding a house in the town of Tammun, south of the city of Tubas in the northern occupied West Bank.

Eyewitnesses said that Israeli special forces stormed the town of Tammoun and positioned themselves around a house, before the army sent military reinforcements to the area. They explained that the forces arrested four Palestinians after raiding the house and ransacked it before withdrawing from the town.

This comes amid escalating attacks by the army and settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem, coinciding with the start of the Israeli war of extermination in Gaza on October 8, 2023, which lasted for two years.

During the two years of genocide, the occupation army and settlers in the West Bank killed 1,065 Palestinians and injured about 10,000 others.

While the genocide in Gaza, which ended with a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, left more than 68,000 martyrs, more than 170,000 wounded, and destruction affecting 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure.
