The Indonesian badminton association (PBSI) has officially released the latest list of Indonesian badminton athletes for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand and confirmed that three key players, namely Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and the pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, are not included in the final squad despite previously being projected to appear in the biennial sporting event.Head of the PP PBSI's Binpres Division, Eng Hian, said the absence of the three mainstay Red and White players was influenced by a number of non-technical and technical factors.
"Fajar has been scheduled for a wedding, and Fajar/Fikri have also been scheduled for Umrah," Eng Hian said in an official PBSI statement on Friday.
In the men's singles, Ginting is unable to participate due to his anticipation of the birth of his child. Meanwhile, Jonatan, also known as Jojo, requires more recovery time after competing in a series of international tournaments in preparation for the 2025 World Tour Finals.
Thus, Indonesia will rely on other players such as Alwi Farhan, Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah, and Yohanes Saut Marcellyno for the men's singles.
