The General Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, welcomed the ability and determination of West Sumatra Province to host the 2032 National Sports Week (PON).
"The Central KONI has sent a letter to all provincial KONIs regarding outreach to report to the governor whether they are willing to host the 23rd PON in 2032," said the General Chairman of the Central KONI, Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman on the sidelines of the inauguration of the West Sumatra Provincial KONI management for the 2025-2029 term at the West Sumatra Governor's Auditorium, Padang, Wednesday (5/11).
According to Marciano, if it is ready to host, KONI Sumbar must immediately coordinate with the Governor of West Sumatra as the provincial leader.
KONI has given prospective hosts a six-year deadline to prepare everything for the PON.
"After the 2028 PON is held in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara, the prospective hosts of the 2032 PON must begin preparing," said Marciano.
Marciano believes that the Minangkabau region has good potential for athlete development, especially considering the history of the many achievements of Minangkabau athletes, including in football.
