Papua Athletics Center (PAC) athlete Lina Hisage broke the national record for the U-18 women's shot put at the 2025 ASEAN School Games (ASG) at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, on November 25.
Lina recorded a throw of 14.72 meters on the third day of competition, surpassing the previous national record of 14.03 meters which she also recorded in Jakarta in July 2025. This result secured the gold medal for Indonesia.
The young athlete from Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains, admitted that he did not expect to be able to sharpen his record again after his performance had declined in the last two championships.
"I was surprised to break the record because my personal bests had actually dropped at the National Championships and POPNAS. I was nervous at first, but I built up my confidence and regained my form. When I shot put, the results were even better than I expected," Lina said in an official statement.
The record achieved at the 2025 ASG adds to Lina's impressive progress over the past year. In addition to her 14.03 meters at the 2025 Jakarta Open, which broke the national record held since 2015, Lina also won gold at the 2025 East Java Open (13.62 meters) and the 2025 Philippine Athletics Championships (13.11 meters).
The Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Indonesian Paralympic Games (PB PASI), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, welcomed the achievements of the athlete born on September 17, 2008. He stated that the results at the 2025 ASG reflect a positive direction in developing young athletes.
"Lina's achievements provide insight into the current development of young athlete development. These results will serve as a basis for evaluation to strengthen the national development program, including at the Papua Athletics Center," said Luhut.
Claus Wamafma, Director & EVP of Sustainable Development for PT Freeport Indonesia, as PB PASI's main partner in managing the PAC, expressed similar appreciation. He considered this national record-breaking achievement a testament to the progress made in development in Papua over the past year.
"Lina's breaking of the national record demonstrates the progress being made at the Papua Athletics Center. PT Freeport Indonesia will continue to support this program so that Papuan athletes have access to adequate training and are prepared to perform at a higher level," said Claus.
