The organizing committee for the 2025 SEA Games has reaffirmed its commitment to hosting the Southeast Asian Games following the change in location due to flooding in Thailand.
"Thailand remains fully committed to hosting an efficient, well-managed, and world-class 33rd SEA Games, which will strengthen the confidence of all participating countries," the organizing committee said, as quoted from the official SEA Games 2025 website on Friday.
Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports Atthakorn Sirilatthayakon chaired the organizing committee meeting for the 33rd SEA Games 2025 and the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025 on Thursday (27/11).
The meeting was attended by the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Kongsak Yodmanee, Deputy Governor for Professional Sports and Boxing Prodpran Samanmit, Deputy Governor for Elite Sports and Sports Science Preecha Lalun, Manager of the National Sports Development Fund Tanukiat Chanchum.
The meeting, which was held both offline and online, also included representatives from sports associations and related officials.
The main agenda discussed the relocation of sports and competition locations for the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 due to major flooding in southern Thailand.
The floods caused damage and impacted preparedness, especially in Songkhla Province, one of the co-host cities for the SEA Games scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20, 2025.
