Italtrans Racing rider Diogo Moreira secured pole position for the 2025 Moto2 Portugal Grand Prix at the Algarve International Circuit after being the fastest in Saturday's qualifying session.
The Brazilian driver set the fastest qualifying lap of 1 minute 41.16 seconds, 0.017 seconds ahead of Jake Dixon in second place and 0.149 seconds ahead of Collin Veijer, who will start from third.
Meanwhile, Indonesian racer Mario Aji is still struggling to find his pace on this circuit, having only managed to start from 22nd position. In qualifying, Mario, who is riding for the IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia, recorded a time of 1:42.198.
Mario has not found his best form again after his performance at the start of the season, finishing ninth at the United States Grand Prix in the third series.
He has currently only scored points in two Moto2 races, in Thailand and the United States, with a total of eight points placing him in 26th place.
As for Moreira, this is his sixth pole position of the season and will be crucial for him, who currently leads the Moto2 championship with 256 points.
There are only two races left this season, in Portugal and in Valencia, and therefore victory in the 21-lap race tomorrow, will be very important for Moreira.
