PDSKJI says many teenagers need mental health treatment

Dr. Zulvia Oktanida Syarif, a mental health specialist from the Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI), said that more and more teenagers are now needing mental health treatment.

Zulvia said the findings showed that levels of anxiety, depression, and emotional control disorders among adolescents were increasing.

"Recently, we've seen an increasing number of teenagers seeking mental health services. So, many cases have come to clinical practice, where levels of anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation are currently felt to be increasing," Zulvia said at a discussion session in Jakarta on Thursday.

This phenomenon, he said, is in line with the findings of PDSKJI which stated that there is a decline in cognitive abilities in individuals during adolescence, specifically in the age range of 13-24 years.

"So, we examined these teenagers' cognitive functions, thinking power, memory, concentration, decision-making ability, and impulse control , and it turned out to be low," he said.
