The Indonesian Kickboxing Central Board (PP KBI) is using the 2025 Senior National Championship and Junior Kickboxing Open Championship as a momentum to map regional strengths and evaluate the results of coaching over the past year.
The national championship, held at the Padepokan Silat TMII Sports Hall in Jakarta from November 28 to December 3, attracted over 250 athletes from 19 provinces. This number is considered to provide an initial overview of the quality of coaching in various regions.
"The 2025 National Kickboxing Championships is the culmination of our year-long development program and serves as a vital selection process to prepare athletes for higher levels of achievement. This is not just a competition, but a long-term investment in the future of Indonesian kickboxing," said PP KBI Chairman Ngatino in an official statement on Sunday.
He also appreciated the support of the Wismilak Foundation, which was again involved in organizing this year's championship.
However, Ngatino emphasized that the main focus of the National Championship remains on the athlete development and technical evaluation process.
For the 2025 edition, the PP KBI implemented several format updates, including a policy allowing each province to field two athletes in the same class. This regulation is said to provide greater competition space and help map the depth of athlete quality in each region.
In addition to senior categories in the two main disciplines, Ring Sports and Tatami Styles, the Junior Open Championships were reinstated as part of the regeneration program. Four Forms categories, including Creative Form Open Hand, were also contested to expand the development of the artistic discipline.
With a broad participant base and a more comprehensive format, the 2025 National Kickboxing Championships will serve as a strategic stepping stone for PP KBI to strengthen the achievement base in various provinces while accelerating the regeneration process of national athletes.
"Our full support for the 2025 National Kickboxing Championship is a concrete manifestation of our commitment to investing in the talent of young Indonesian athletes. We believe this National Championship is more than just a competition, but a crucial platform that will hone mental and technical skills," said Anastesya Ftaraya, a representative from the Wismilak Foundation.
"We hope every athlete will use it as a fundamental stepping stone to achieve success, from qualifying for the PON to reaching the podium on the international stage."
