Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid has asked regional governments to play an active role in efforts to counter disinformation, including disinformation about health, in the digital space.
At the 2025 RRI Awards event at the Abdulrahman Saleh Auditorium RRI, he said that the spread of misinformation about health could endanger public safety.
"We see a real challenge: many people are being targeted by disinformation, especially in the health sector. A lot of inaccurate information is being spread by people without a medical background ," he said, as quoted in a ministry press release on Friday.
Meutya stated that the circulation of health content created by creators who lack medical competence could mislead the public.
Therefore, he continued, local governments must help ensure that their communities receive correct information.
"The role of local governments is becoming increasingly strategic. They must be closer to the community, improve the quality of public services, have appropriate information resources, and convey information accurately and consistently," he said.
